University of Haifa International School Student Blog

There are and will always be things to explore and discover everywhere that you find yourself in, including home. These past two weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to try new food places and explore new sites around the city. For example, the Haifa Cable Cars. Before arriving in August, I was aware that there was cable cars in Haifa but I never really knew where they were located. However, I found out that they were next to Stella Marris,-in fact, they take you right up to to Stella Marris from the sea shore. The ride up was about three minutes (one way) but the view was pretty neat. Once on the top, you can go to the view point and take in the view of the port, ocean, and beautiful sunsets if you go in the evening. Also, since it is basically right next to Elijah’s Cave and Stella Marris, it is a good time to check those places out.
Other places that I have enjoyed going to for groceries and eating out while here in Haifa is the druze villages of Isfiya and Daliat el-Carmel. Since I often go to Isfiya, I decided to go to Daliat el-Carmel and see what I could find. What I like about this place is that it has many shops to look at, it’s a good place to spend some time walking around, and it’s not that far from the university. When I was walking around my friend and I were hungry so as we were walking we stopped when we saw this restaurant outside of the main street called Alrayan. Their whole menu was pizza and manakish. We decided to order manakish, and it was very delicious. And maybe it is that we were very hungry but that was some of the best manakish, I’ve ever had. After Alrayan, we continued to walk around and ended our trip there at a cafe with some arabic coffee and desserts. It was a good way to spend the afternoon.
