Let me try to paint a picture. Imagine 4th of July in America. Everyone has flags and maybe is wearing red white and blue and perhaps there is a parade. I grew up 2 minutes from a Navy base within a predominantly military or veteran population so maybe 4th of July is more patriotic then yours but who knows. There are fireworks and BBQs all around. Everyone (0ver 21 obviously) has a beer, some drinks and eats a burger. Now that you have that picture multiply that by 2 or 3 and change the colors from red white and blue to blue and white. That’s Israel on independence day (Yom Haatzmaut)
I walked out Tuesday morning (10th) and the entire school was decorated around the dorms area. Flags and banners everywhere. Later that day I went down to Tel Aviv where just everyone had those little blue Israeli flag inflatable hammers, wearing flags as capes or doing something that I would classify as “patriotic behavior.” It was quite a scene to see and an experience I will never forget. It seemed like the entire population was in the streets, at parks doing basically what I described above. Everyone gets school off so there’s just that many more people out and about. The people in Israel have way more spirit or ruach for all you Hebrew speakers.
An incredible experience. Here are some pictures.
